YOUR EXPERIENCE GETTING A TATTOO SHOULD BE AWESOME
Getting a tattoo is an experience that more and more people are doing. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same kind of experience. Some go great, some go good, some ok, and sadly, some go very bad. To try and avoid one of these bad ones, we can provide some insight and advice so that you have the most enjoyable time possible.
It all really breaks down to a few factors. Choosing the right tattoo. Choosing the right studio. Choosing the right artist. Choosing the right time. Expectations also are a key component to having a great tattooing experience.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT TATTOO
Hopefully, you have put some thought into the tattoo you’d like to get. Rushing into a tattoo is a fantastic way to have a bad overall experience. Spur of the moment tattoos often become regrets. Once you’ve decided on an idea for a tattoo design, now you want to think about what style you’d like it in, how big you want it, if it’s going to be in black/grey or color and where you want it tattooed on your body. All of these things can determine how happy you are with the outcome of your finished tattoo.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT STUDIO
This is key. Not all tattoo joints are the same. You can go into some grungy shop, some place mediocre, somewhere that’s “ok”, or you can choose somewhere a little classier, such as Lucky Bamboo Tattoo. Classy doesn’t mean pompous or pretentious, it means the place is kept clean, safe, and welcoming. We are so confident in our standards, anybody is welcome to a studio tour any time they want (as long as we’re open, of course). If you go into a tattoo place and request a tour, but they just scoff at you or refuse, RED FLAG. Just walk out.
Don’t mistake confidence with arrogance. The owner of Lucky Bamboo Tattoo has very high standards to how his studio is run, and cleanliness and organization are priorities. We do things daily to keep things far beyond Health Dept standards that other shops may only do once a month, if that. Part of your experience is the vibe of the studio, and we do our very best to keep it beyond expectations.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT ARTIST
When it comes to your tattoo, choosing the right artist is very important to your overall experience. At Lucky Bamboo Tattoo, our artists are confident and skilled in many different styles and techniques. Between all of the artists, there isn’t a style we can’t do. Just like other things in life, some artists are better at some styles over others. This is where choosing the right artist comes into play.
Very often, our studio associate can help you determine which artist would be best suited for the tattoo you are looking to get and can convey all information from you to that artist to get you a quote for your tattoo idea. Sometimes, however, to insure that you have the best experience possible, we may want to have you do a free consult with that artist. All clients are welcome to a consult regardless of how straight forward their tattoo is, however.
Many factors can contribute to how to choose the right artist for you. If you’d like to read more about it, please click the link below to our article about how to choose the artist for you.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT TIME
Believe it or not, choosing the right time to get your tattoo can certainly contribute to your experience. It’s best to choose a time where you are completely positive you can make it to your appointment(s). If you miss your appointment, you will lose your Artist Design Fee, and that will definitely make you unhappy. Nobody wants that.
Also, choosing to get your tattoo right before you are going to be doing certain activities or going on vacation may not be the best idea. For example, you don’t want to get your tattoo a week before you are going to Hawaii. It’s likely you’ll like to be out in the sun and in the water, two things you want to avoid while healing. Sweating excessively can contribute to hindering your healing, and you don’t want to go swimming with a fresh tattoo. Plan, realistically, to give yourself a good 2-3 weeks to heal before you intend to go through with your activities.
Your new tattoo interfering with your previously anticipated events may make for a bad experience.
EXPECTATIONS
Everyone expects their tattoos to come out exactly how they imagine them. Hopefully that happens or exceeds your expectations. The artists at Lucky Bamboo Tattoo take personal pride in their work and the art they create. Your artist will definitely listen to what it is you want and how you want it. With artistic freedom, however, you need to expect it to not be 100% as you imagined. It’s quite impossible unless your artist is literally copying something exactly, which would be boring and uncreative.
Come in with high expectations, but also be realistic. Whatever your artist designed for you was for a reason. If something had to be reworked a little, it’s possible it’s due to placement on the body. They want it to look the best as possible for you. Remember, your experience is a reflection on them, so they want it to be spot on. TRUST YOUR ARTIST.
