FOLLOWING AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS IS CRUCIAL
After you get a fresh tattoo, there will always be aftercare. Your artist at Lucky Bamboo Tattoo will verbally instruct you on what needs to be done for aftercare, but they will also provide you with written instructions just in case you forget or get mixed up. All the artists at LBT are certified in Blood Borne pathogens, first aid and CPR.
WHY IS FOLLOWING AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS SO IMPORTANT?
To insure the proper healing of your tattoo and to get the best possible outcome for once your tattoo is healed, following your artists instructions is very important. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve been tattooed in the past, or if it’s your first, listen to your artist and follow their directions. It’s in your best interest.
First, not all people heal the same. The instructions are a general guideline that should be followed by all. Will some people heal faster than others? Of course. That’s normal. Will some people bleed a little more than others? Yes. It’s just a basic fact of human biology that we are different, so we should all go with this in our expectations regarding our healing and aftercare.
The name of the “second skin” aftercare bandage that is used by all the artists at Lucky Bamboo Tattoo is Recovery Derm Shield. It’s a very thin and flexible bandage, and it helps with the healing process probably better than any other method. It should be noted that a very small percentage of the population may exhibit irritation or possible allergic reactions to the adhesive. In the event that happens, your artist can give you alternate instructions.
The aftercare instructions have been formulated over the years based off information from the industry and through practice. It’s the best course of action to take to make sure your healing occurs quickly, safely, and evenly. A tattoo that heals uneven can sometimes experience minor complications, so ignoring instruction is a bad idea. The artists want you to have the least uncomfortable experience possible.
There are some other complications that can happen if you ignore aftercare advice. You risk slow healing, excessive discomfort, excessive itching, loss of color saturation, and possible infection. As a client, you really should do all you can to avoid all of the above if possible. Keep in mind, you will likely have a certain degree of discomfort and itching, this is normal. Do you best to avoid scratching or irritating the healing tattoo the best you can.
Try to avoid having tight fit clothing or anything that is going to consistently rub up against your tattoo during the healing process. You’ll only cause further discomfort and probably prolong your healing if you fail to do so. Anything rubbing against your tattoo will irritate it. Scratching due to itching can definitely damage a healing tattoo.
Although formally the common go-to, try and avoid using petroleum based lotions or ointments, such as Neosporin. It will not speed up the healing, and may actually slow it down. There are plenty of tattoo friendly lotions out there to help alleviate itching and irritation. If you ask your artist, they can certainly point you in the right direction. If they can’t be found locally for some reason, they are readily available online at various retailers.
One of the best aftercare balms on the market is Outlaw Organics tattoo balm. It’s completely natural and safe. It’s all made in small batches locally in Utah and often sells out right away. If you can get your hands on some, it’s well worth it. One great thing about it is that very little goes a long way. One small jar can last a while and should be plenty for multiple tattoos of average size.
Since Outlaw Organics often sells out so quickly, you can be put on a waiting list for when it’s back in stock, and our studio associate at Lucky Bamboo Tattoo would be more than happy to contact you so that you don’t miss out, so feel free to contact by clicking the button below!
