WHAT ALL IS INVOLVED WITH GETTING A TATTOO COVER-UP?
There are quite a few people out there that could really use a cover-up on a tattoo that they regret or came out poorly. It happens to the best of us. Sometimes it’s due to a spur of the moment decision to get a tattoo without really putting any thought into it, you went to an unskilled artist or you got it in someone’s basement. Any way that it happened, you want it gone.
Most tattoos can be covered up, there are few exceptions. It all depends on how open minded you are to what the artist needs to create to achieve your goal. As long as you are open to suggestions, you’re probably good to go.
When you are thinking about getting a cover-up, it’s best to schedule a consultation with your preferred artist. It’s best to do this in person so that the artist can fully gauge what needs to be done. An in-person consult also gives the artist the opportunity to see how dark it is, as it’s hard to completely tell from pictures since lighting may affect how it looks. Also, the artist will often want to take a tracing of your existing tattoo so that they can accurately plan out how to cover it up. This can only be done in-person.
Like other art you schedule, you will not see the completed art until the day of your tattoo. You’ll need to trust your artist and that they created the best possible piece to successfully cover up your tattoo. The artists spend quite a bit of time outside of the studio drawing, and re-drawing your art so that it comes out just right. Trust the art!
More than likely, your cover-up tattoo will require more than one session, unless it’s very small. It could be due to size, or how dark your existing tattoo is. Expect that you will need a follow-up.
After all is said and done, you’ll be please with your new tattoo! All you have to do is trust the process and be patient!
